The annual election of Officers and Directors will be conducted at the March 20, 2009 Dinner Meeting at the Ukranian Cultural Center in Warren.  Members in good standing are eligible to vote for their favorite candidates from the list below.  In an effort to make the selection process easier, we have included the bio-sketches for all of the candidates.

FOR THE OFFICE OF  PRESIDENT - Katia Moraes, C.P.M.  (2009) 
Katia Moraes, C.P.M.

My name is Katia Moraes and I am the Vice President of Purchasing for Diversified Machine Inc. (DMI) a supplier of cast aluminum and machined ferrous and aluminum products for the automotive and related industries. DMI’s product portfolio is concentrated in major suspension and powertrain components and includes full engineering design, development and service with a complete range of gravity casting and machining processes. It is headquartered in Wixom, MI with plants in Michigan, Indiana and Wisconsin.

In this role I am responsible for developing and implementing Purchasing strategies that deliver corporate objectives and metrics. My ongoing goal is to contribute to the overall profitability of DMI.

Prior to DMI I was a Purchasing Manager for GDX Automotive, Farmington Hills, MI and a Commodity Manager for Freudenberg-NOK in Plymouth, MI.

I moved to the US from Brazil in 1986. I have a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science and received my MBA in 2002 from Walsh College, Troy, MI.

I joined NAPM-MD in 2004, the same year that I received my C.P.M.  NAPM provides and incredible opportunity for networking and gaining prospective insight from other Purchasing professionals.

In my spare time, I like to travel, dine out, go to the movies, and spend time with my husband..

FOR THE OFFICE OF Vice President -  Philip Rosenfeld, C.P.M., C.P.P., Canadian Salt Company
Phil Rosenfeld

Philip Rosenfeld currently holds the position of Regional Supply Manager – Canada for the Canadian Salt Company Limited (a wholly owned subsidiary of Morton Salt Company, Chicago), at its Windsor, Ontario location. He is responsible for the procurement activity at all salt manufacturing sites and warehouse facilities within Canada. Phil is somewhat unique as he has only  worked for this company since leaving post-secondary and has always been involved with the supply management function.

Upon graduating from St Clair College as an Industrial Engineering Technologist, Phil joined the Canadian Salt Company at its evaporation/food grade processing plant located in west Windsor. His responsibilities were in the area of inventory control and inventory management and lead him to the planning and purchasing of MRO materials for the Maintenance and Engineering departments.

In 1988 Phil was promoted to the staff position of Purchasing and Stores Section Head  at another Canadian Salt Company location – the Ojibway Mine, an underground salt mine on the southern boundary of Windsor and the eastern shoreline of the Detroit river. Reporting to the Purchasing Manager, his responsibilities were primarily in the procurement of general supplies and equipment spare parts.  In 1989 he was promoted to the staff position of Purchasing Manager reporting to the local Mine Manager. His responsibilities now included all of the procurement activity for the site dealing with commodities ranging from packaging materials and ingredients to heavy mobile mining equipment and explosives.

In 2005 a corporate realignment of the procurement function resulted in Phil assuming his current regional position reporting directly to the Morton Salt Group Corporate Procurement Manager in Chicago. 

Throughout his professional working life with the Canadian Salt Company, Phil maintained a keen interest in education and professional career development and accreditation. Upon his promotion to his first staff position in 1988 Phil joined the Purchasing Management Association of Canada (PMAC) and immediately became active in the operation and management of the Essex-Kent District. Beginning in 1990 and for the next 15 years Phil played an active role on the local Board of Directors holding all board chairs at various times throughout that period. He also served as District President for 3 separate terms. In 1996 Phil earned his Certified Professional Purchaser (C.P.P.) designation while studying business at the University Of Windsor. In 1997 Phil was elected to the Board of Directors of the Ontario Institute of the PMAC, the provincial governing body of the PMAC, for a one year term as the Ethics/Professional Practice Chairperson. In 2003 he received his designation as a Certified Purchasing Manager (C.P.M.)

A lifelong resident of southwestern Ontario Phil currently resides in Leamington where he actively pursues interests in golf, motorcycling and travel. 

FOR THE OFFICE OF Vice President -  Rajeev Roy, Robert Bosch Corporation 



For the past 11 years Rajeev has been employed at the Robert Bosch Corporation. During this tenure he has served in the functions of Engineering, Supplier Development and Technical Purchasing. Currently he is serving as Purchasing Manager and his responsibilities include developing strategies for business acquisition for purchased components, project management of the supply base procurement projects starting from product design till launch of the product, providing customer support to end customers concerning all purchased components for the Gasoline division. His specific tasks as listed above are in the field of fuel systems, transmission controls, fuel injection, sensors, air management  and also braking systems for the automotive industry. His supply base is global.

Prior to being with Bosch, he spent 7 years with automotive companies dealing in fuel injection and power transmission components where he worked his way through Manufacturing Engineering and Project Management.

Rajeev is qualified with a BSME in Mechanical Engineering and with a MBA in International Business.

FOR THE OFFICE OF TREASURER - Melissa Countryman    (2009)
Melissa Countryman

Melissa has over fourteen years of experience in supply management and purchasing.  Melissa was a Supply Chain Manager at Wolverine Advanced Materials in Inkster, Michigan.  In this position, she oversaw the procurement function for three manufacturing facilities.  Specifically, she was involved in the purchase of all MRO (maintenance, repair and operating) supplies, capital equipment procurement and contracted services.  She also led the implementation of new systems, processes and procedures associated with indirect purchasing.

Melissa has held various positions of increasing responsibility in the procurement and supply chain management areas.  As a Senior Buyer at Technicolor, she was responsible for the procurement of tape and shell materials until she was promoted to the position of Sourcing Leader and assigned to the MRO commodity. From 1993 to 1998, she held various purchasing roles for the Suspension Division of Eaton Corp in Chatham, Ontario.  In 1998 when the division was acquired by Oxford Automotive, she was promoted to the Corporate office in Troy, Michigan where she played an integrate role in the centralization of purchasing activities, developing new policies and procedures, supervising commodity buyers, implementing various systems, rationalizing the supply base and overall support of Senior Management on diversified projects.

Melissa also implemented a strategic plan to deliver significant cost savings and streamlined processes for Key Plastics, LLC in Northville, Michigan.

Melissa is a Certified Purchasing Manager (C.P.M.).  She holds a BS in Business Management and is working towards the completion of her MBA in Global Management.  She also has professional certificates in Information Technology and Human Resources.  

Melissa was elected to the NAPM-MD in 2007. Her other professional affiliations include the Purchasing Management Association of Canada (PMAC) and the Chatham Business and Professional Women’s Club (BPW), where she served as a Recording Secretary (1993), First Vice President (1993) and President (1994).

Melissa is a US citizen with landed immigrate status in Canada where she has lived since 1989.

She and her husband Mike have two sons, Mitchell and Matthew.  Being auto enthusiasts, you will often see the entire family at the Woodward Dream Cruise, Frankmuth Autofest, Autorama and other related automotive events.

FOR THE OFFICE OF DIRECTOR - Dave Rodriguez, CPSM, C.P.M.  (2009/2012) 

Dave Rodriguez has over 10 years in the purchasing department at TRW Automotive.  His current position is, Commodity Manager for tube based products used for seat belts, airbags and power steering gear applications.  He was hired as a Supplier Development Engineer based on prior experience in the quality field with expertise in plastics, prior to that he worked in a tool room building plastic injections molds.

In addition to the tactical aspects of his purchasing position, David has primary responsibility for developing the commodity strategies based on company needs. 

This has taken the form of supplier consolidation plans and/or development of new suppliers based in the commodity needs.   The push for low cost country suppliers has allowed the opportunity to travel to China, Korea, Mexico and Europe. 

Areas of business interest:  Project management and currency exchange rates.

FOR THE OFFICE OF DIRECTOR - Brian Smith, C.P.M. (2009/2012) 

Brian is a Senior Buyer at DTE Energy’s corporate headquarters in Detroit, Michigan.  He strategically sources and aggressively negotiates major capital projects, power generation services, and construction/ trade labor for Detroit Edison.  Prior to his current position, Brian also performed all capital construction purchasing functions for DTE’s Facilities, Design & Construction Group.  Brian has a passion for renewable energy and is currently studying wind power.

Brian has been a leader throughout his advanced purchasing career.  Currently he plans and leads the monthly DTE Buyer Action Forum, the P.O. Standard Format Team, and serves as Contract Process Owner for his group to ensure Sarbanes-Oxley compliance.  His Supply Management experience includes work in California where he provided procurement support for Technicolor’s company relocation project.  With a keen eye on Total Cost of Ownership and lean initiatives, he has established and administered contracts for ITM hardware/ software, property/ real estate management, and technical/ engineering consultants.     

Brian holds an MBA in Finance from Wayne State University, and is serving on the Board of Directors of the Wayne State School of Business Alumni Association.

Brian is an active member of NAPM Metro Detroit, where he served on the Board of Directors in 2003.  He received his designation as a Certified Purchasing Manager (C.P.M.) in 2000.

Brian is an artist who enjoys drawing and painting.  His interests include music, travel, and outdoor activities. 

FOR THE OFFICE OF DIRECTOR - Jeffrey Williams, C.P.M. (2009/2012) 

Jeffrey Williams is a Global Commodity Manager for ArvinMeritor,Inc. premier global supplier of a broad range of integrated systems, modules and components to the motor vehicle industry.

Jeffrey’s experience includes financial and strategic consulting as well as supply chain management.  Jeffrey has also worked in the automotive, consumer products, education, and health care sectors.

Currently Jeffrey has buying responsibility for Arvin Meritor’s world wide coil steel, plate and tubing requirements.  This includes Arvin Meritor’s Resale program for its stamping, tubing and component suppliers globally.  In this role, Jeffrey collaborates with Arvin Meritor’s Sales, Engineering, and Operations functions to optimize steel specifications to ensure performance at the best price.  Jeffrey also works with Arvin’s joint venture partners to improve market intelligence and supplier selection.  Jeffrey has been successful in driving VA/VE initiatives and other cost saving opportunities including duty drawback.

Jeffrey holds an MBA in from the University of Michigan, and is serving on the Board of Directors of the Ennis Center for Children and Nataki Talibah Schoolhouse of Detroit, where he serves as Treasurer.

Jeffrey is an active member of NAPM Metro Detroit.  He received his designation as a Certified Purchasing Manager (C.P.M.) in 2008.

Jeffrey enjoys time with his family.  His interests include music, reading, travel, and outdoor activities.

Proposed change to the Association Name

Proposal 1:
The Board of Directors would like to change the name of our Association to more closely align ourselves tithe the Institute for Supply Management (ISM).  For this to happen, but Association must comply with a number of requirements that can be found on our reprint of ISM's website at
http://www.napm-md.org/alinks_43.html .  The Board has already committed the resource to accomplish this.

Please Vote for one of these options:

_________  Vote to keep the name NAPM Metro Detroit

_________  Vote to change the name from NAPM to ISM.

 

Absentee Ballots
Regular members can vote via absentee ballot up to close of business on Monday, November 17, 2008. Please contact Sue Peters via phone, fax or e-mail to request an absentee ballot. Absentee ballots require a signature to be valid. Prior to the tabulation of the vote, the Telling Committee will remove all signatures from the absentee ballots. Any ballots received after Monday, November 17th will be discarded. Each regular member has one vote, no voting by proxy will be allowed.
